Lionel Messi to part ways with PSG?

Lionel Messi is highly unlikely to extend his contract at the Paris Saint Germain as per the sources. French outlet L’Equipe was first to report the story. Negotiations between the two parties are at halt, casting uncertainty over the maestro’s future in Paris.

As per the sources, the French giants want Messi to take a 25% pay cut from his existing salary i.e. nearly €40 million gross a year. The club’s meeting with Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, is still scheduled for later this month to find an ideal solution.

It is also believed that Messi was thinking of signing a new deal before the World Cup but the situation has drastically changed since then. The 35 year old has failed to emulate his excellent World Cup form with PSG and the club doubts whether Messi can still deliver in big games.

Sources have told that Messi is not looking for a pay cut and was unhappy with the jeers he received by a section of the club’s supporters in the last two home matches. It is also believed that Messi is leaving all the doors open for other clubs to make him an offer. His father had already discussed the possibility of a Barcelona reunion, but it will be financially difficult to achieve. The player’s camp is also awaiting a proposition from Inter Miami and Major League Soccer.

According to sources, Messi can play in the US before his career comes to an end while Saudi Arabi club Al Ittihad has also shown interest in the Argentine.
