Dortmund edged past PSG by 1-0 in the second league of UCL semifinal

Luis Enrique sadly said that football is sometimes very unfair after watching Paris Saint-Germain being knocked out of the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund. PSG was forced to give up when they hosted Dortmund in the second leg of the 2023/24 Champions League semifinals. Playing at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday(07th May 2024), the hosts lost with a score of 0-1. Appearing to press from the first whistle, making 31 attempts and hitting the goal post six times, frustrated PSG. Dortmund took advantage of this by scoring a goal through Mats Hummels' header in the 50th minute.

With this result, Die Borussen has the right to advance to the final with a 2-0 aggregate win and await the winner between Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. After the match, Enrique said it was hard to believe his team couldn't win the match overall with the many opportunities they had. "When the result is like that, yes of course it is a difficult match," he said. "I thought it was a close game but to be honest I think we deserved to win the game. "We had 31 shots, four hit the post and in at least two games we hit the post six times and we didn't score. It's unbelievable. Football is so unfair sometimes."

PSG has now lost six of the three two-legged Champions League semi-finals, after losing twice to AC Milan in 1995 and Manchester City in 2021. Enrique added that he hopes Dortmund can win the Champions League at Wembley. "Congratulations to them, they are a great team," he said. "They did well and I hope they can get to the final and win it."

Regarding PSG's future, he asked PSG players to get up quickly and prepare thorough plans for next season to win the Champions League title. "We tried to create something positive. Now it is a sad moment, but at the same time, sport works that way. "We have to do something special next year and try to win this competition."
