In the very first season of the Major T20 League, six teams will fight it out to get their hands on the coveted title. The first match of the inaugural edition of the American League is between Texas and Los Angeles. Both teams are a part of Indian T20 League franchises Chennai and Kolkata respectively. Although both sides have quality cricketers who have mastered this format, this tournament on American soil throws a whole new challenge.

TSK have a very strong batting lineup which stretches till the lower order. This is a big plus point for their team as we know that depth in batting guild win matches. LAKR recompense for this with their specialised bowling attack. Thus we expect this game to go down the wire. 

Faf Du Plessis is the captain of the Texas side and they have players with nerves of steel and the opening pair can provide a promising start to the tournament. 

Du Plessis will target to lead the team from the front and deliver a robust start with Devon Conway who is another powerful T20 batter. The TSK guild will expect strong performances from Ambati Rayudu, Saiteja Mukkamalla, and Sami Asla in the middle order. The extra firepower will be added by the likes of David Miller, Dwayne Bravo and Daniel Sams. 

The only thing that puts this team in danger is they don’t have enough skilled bowlers. They need good spells from Daniel Sams and Rusty Theron who can turn out to be the biggest problems for the LAKR batters. Also, Mitchell Santner has a long experience in the T20 arena and will look forward to performing well along with Zia Shahzad. Also, Chennai legend. Dwayne Bravo needs to deliver a quality spell in the supporting role.

Kolkata legendary spinner Sunil Narine will lead the LAKR side, they are one of the strongest teams this season. Their core players are from the Kolkata franchise. These players have good coordination as they know each other well and also play in the Indian T20 League together. The Los Angeles management would well anticipate their key players to perform well and earn their first points in this competition. 

Their opening batters, Riley Rossouw and Jason Roy are explosive batters and will look forward to delivering a good start for their side. Unmukt Chand will play a crucial role in the No.3 position and needs to add runs along with Gajanand Singh and Jaskaran Malhotra. Skipper Narine and the most famous all-rounder in the Knights’ universe Andre Russell are the most powerful hitters which completes their potent batting line-up.

With the like of Lockie Ferguson, Sunil Narine and Adam Zampa, they have a commendable bowling strength. Ali Khan, Shadley van Schalkwyk and Andre Russell will look to deliver well in the supporting role. With a good combination of pacers and spinners, it is well expected that they will trouble the TSK batters.

The Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, is a miniature ground with a quick outfield. The batters have performed well here as they can try out their strokes and cross the fence. The pacers get early help from the track, but this track proves to be a difficult venue for the spinners as the small dimensions of the stadium make it difficult for them to stop the batters from playing long shots. 

Hence, we expect a flat track and a high-scoring contest. Batsmen can play their strokes freely on this surface. There is little margin for error for the bowlers especially the spinners as the quality of batting for both sides is too good at this venue. The par score here will be 180 runs and the side batting first in this game will get the advantage of setting a huge target, hence pressurizing the opponents.

Match Prediction

Los Angeles have a powerful bowling attack with a good bowling attack, but their lack of experienced batters in the middle order is a big worry for their side. They have to bowl well and restrict their opponents to a low-scoring total. The Texas side on the other hand have a strong batting order. Thus we expect a close contest between the sides, but the LAKR side have a slight edge over TSK in the inaugural match.
