Manuel Ugarte to Man Utd?

Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Paris Saint Germain’s Manuel Ugarte after signing Leny Yoro.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Uruguayan midfielder, who has the same agent, Jorge Mendes, as Leny Yoro, is also raring to join the Red Devils despite the club’s inability to compete in the Champions League. However, the deal is far from concluded as both United and PSG have not yet reached an agreement on the transfer fee.

As per Daily Mail PSG is rigid in its valuation and has set a price tag of  £59 million ($76m) for the midfielder. Ugarte joined the Ligue 1 champions from Sporting CP for £42 million ($54m) only last summer, fits the club’s strategy of assembling a team around young prospects without prominent superstars and they are not eager to sell him at a slashed rate.

United’s pursuit of acquiring Ugarte’s services faces tough competition from other top European clubs. Bayern Munich have shown interest and two Italian sides have also made inquiries. This increased interest from various clubs bolsters PSG’s stance on their valuation which further complicates United’s attempts to close a deal.

If United are to sign Ugarte, they must then offload one of their current midfielders. Scott McTominay, who netted 10 goals across all competitions last season, is a potential candidate to depart. Furthermore, veteran midfielder Casemiro might leave after a dismal second season at Old Trafford.
