Manoj Tiwari call it quits from professional cricket
Manoj Tiwari retires from all forms of cricket
Indian batter Manoj Tiwary has announced his decision to retire from all forms of cricket on Thursday (August 3).
"Goodbye to the game of cricket. This game has given me everything, I mean every single thing which I had never dreamt of, starting from the times when my life was challenged by different forms of difficulties," the 37 year old wrote on Instagram.
Tiwari made his international debut nearly 15 years ago in 2008 in Brisbane, where he was dismissed without troubling the scorers. Eventually, he had to wait for another three years to represent India in One Daysers during a period in which he notched his only century in international cricket West Indies in Chennai.
After being not given any opportunity in 2012, Tiwary donned the Indian jersey on just four more occasions that comprised a series in Zimbabwe in 2015. Overall he has played 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is for the national team.
Tiwari, who is also the minister of state for Youth Affairs and Sports in West Bengal, has always featured for his state side despite being released from national duties. He recently led his domestic side in their run to the Ranji Trophy final. In his illustrious career, Tiwary ended up registering 29 centuries at an average of 48.56, concluding with 9900 runs. This included a top score of 303+, scored against Huyderabad in January 2022.
Tiwari once was also an integral part of the KKR squad. He scored the winning runs for the Knight Riders to lift the trophy in 2012. His standout season though came in 2017 when he played a critical role in Rising Pune Supergiants advancing through the final but after that season, he struggled to do much in the competition.
