Match 50: DEL vs. HYD

Preview 

Despite having a good squad, Delhi is 4th last in the league table with 8 points from 9 games. Even though their road to playoffs is still possible, the team needs to work really hard in order to fulfil their dream to win their maiden trophy this season. Hyderabad on the other hand, was on a winning run before losing to Chennai and Gujarat in the last two matches. As we are in the business end of the tournament, the team needs to do well in order to book their berth for the playoffs and Hyderabad are no exception.

Delhi’s problem has been their consistency. They have lost some close encounters and that might haunt them if they fail to qualify. The openers need to take a bit more responsibility and give Delhi a good start. Rest, they have enough firepower to take on or set any total they want. No one getting a big score and everyone contributing their bit is also a matter of concern. There are a lot of positives and they have a good batting unit to turn things around for sure. Bowlers need to get better though. Other than Kuldeep Yadav, no one has been impressive and that’s a matter of concern. Shardul Thakur bagged three wickets in the last match but he has been inconsistent this season. Anrich Nortje is yet to declare himself fit and Mustafizur Rahman has been average so far. The team definitely misses Kagiso Rabada, who’s having a great season with Punjab.

We have said this lot of times and will say again that Hyderabad’s strength has been their bowling. They have a lot of variation in their pace attack and that is one strength every team wants to have when they play T20 Cricket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar can swing the ball while Umran Malik can awestruck the opposition with pace and Natarajan can nail the Yorkers. This combination has worked for the team but something that didn’t work at all is Kane Williamson’s form. The Kiwi skipper despite getting the runs in the last match has a pretty low strike-rate and that is choking the team. Abhishek Sharma, his opening partner has been impressive and that’s a huge plus point for the side. Rahul Tripathi has blown hot and cold this season. Nicolas Pooran’s return to form can work wonders for the team if he can remain consistent for the rest of the tournament. With a new responsibility as the captain of the West Indies side, one can hope for some mature innings from the keeper.

David Warner played some sensible knocks in this tournament. The dashing opener needs to be a bit more consistent but you can’t leave him either. On his day, he can create havoc!

Umran Malik has impressed one and all in this season. With his raw pace, he destroyed a lot of oppositions and against Delhi; he will look forward to do the same. 

Rishabh Pant might not score big but has played some decent knocks so far. He looked in great touch and scored some quick runs. A good knock is just around the corner and you can take a bet on him for sure

Abhishek Sharma has proved himself to be the main batter of the Hyderabad team. When all their batters were playing ordinary cricket, he rose and is still delivering for the team.
