                            Mohammaj Siraj claims back No.1 Spot in ODI Bowling Rankings


Mohammad Siraj returns to the No.1 spot in the ODI Rankings following his extraordinary show in the Asia ODI series final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. This is the second instance Siraj has reached the top of the table, having formerly held the position between January and March 2023 before being replaced by Aussie speedster Josh Hazlewood. 

Siraj has ascended eight positions to the top of the rankings on the back of his spectacular performance in the just concluded Asia ODI Series where he picked 10 wickets at an average of 12.20. The high point of his splendid display was his spell of 6 for 21 that demolished Sri Lanka for 50 all out in the final. That spell included a four wicket over, a rare feat achieved only thrice before in men’s ODI history. 

Impressive performances at the Asia ODI Series also took Afghanistan’s spin pair of Mujeeb Rahman (No.4) and Rashid Khan (No.5) into the top five. They picked two wickets apiece in the group stand. Hazlewood and Trent Boult slot in at number two and three respectively. 

Kuldeep Yadav, who scalped nine wickets at the Asia ODI Series has dropped three places to ninth. Keshav Maharaj climbs up from 25th to 15th after inspiring South Africa complete a 3-2 turnaround from 0-2 down against a mighty Australian side. He grabbed 8 wickets in the series, including a four-fer in the series decider. 

Klassen storms into top ten

South Africa batter Heinrich Klassen scored a scintillating 83 ball 174 against Australia in the penultimate ODI, and as a result has moved twenty places at No.9 on the rankings for ODI batters. It was a record shattering innings in the regard that no batter has ever scored as many runs in an ODI innings at a strike rate of 204 formerly.

England’s opening batter Dawid Malan has jumped to a career best 13th in ODIs after finishing the series against Kiwis as the top run getter (277 runs). He averaged close to 93 with a healthy strike rate of 105.72 and is presently the highest-ranked England batter. Ben Stokes climbed up to 36th place after his bludgeoning 182 at the Oval. Babar Azam, Shubman Gill and Rassie Van der Dussen acquire the first three spots.
