Mount and Varane could return at Burnley- sources
Mount and Varane available for the game against Burnley- sources
Manchester United are expecting the availability of Mason Mount and Raphael Varane for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Burnley.
The two have rejoined the training after spells on the sidelines with injuries but weren’t fit enough to play the Champions League opener against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
However, there is hope that both Mount and Varane can be named in the squad for the game at Turf Moor this weekend if the pair can end the final training session unscathed on Friday.
The United Squad stayed overnight at Munich and trained at Bayern’s academy on Thursday before travelling back to Manchester. Ten Hag didn’t have 12 senior players against Bayern and was compelled to name three goalkeepers on the bench at the Allianz Arena.
Having Varane and Mount back against Burnley will be a huge relief to the Dutch boss but there are trepidations to other injured players, Aaron Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw, could be facing long spells on the sidelines.
Shaw has been out of action since the 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in August due to a muscle problem and, as per a source, there are issues he will not be back before the November international break, which would result in another two months.
Bissaka could also be seeing a similar spell out after sustaining a hamstring injury against Brighton. The Red Devils have confirmed the right-back’s unavailability for “several weeks” but it could roughly be two months.
United take the field against Burnley on a string of three straight defeats across all competitions and four in six games thus far this season. Ten Hag’s team have conceded 12 goals in their previous four outings including at least three in their last three games.
