MS Dhoni becomes 7th batter to cross 5,000 runs in IND T20 League

IND T20 League-based franchise Chennai's skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni completed his 5000 runs in the cash-rich league on Monday. In the 16th season of this sensational league, he achieved this milestone against Lucknow in the 6th league match at his home ground Chepauk. 41-year-old veteran wicketkeeper batter came out to bat in the last over of the innings, in which he crossed the 5000-run mark while smashing two consecutive sixes in the first two balls of Mark Wood while trying to hit the 3rd six as well but got out at deep cover off Wood.
With this, four-time league winner Dhoni has now become the 7th player in IND T20 League history to achieve this feat which came in 236 matches. Earlier in this league, the likes of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and AB de Villiers achieved this feat.
After nearly 4 years, Dhoni, who came out to bat at the Chepauk ground in Chennai, started his innings brilliantly and hit a six while playing towards the wide third man off Mark Wood. Immediately after this, The Ranchi stalwart completed his 5000 runs by taking the ball across the boundary line while playing towards deep square leg on the very next ball.
Talking about this match, CHE put a mammoth total on after put to bat first, in which the opening batters of the yellow army had laid the foundation of a big score for the team with a quick partnership of 110 runs for the first wicket. Chennai managed to reach a score of 217 runs at the loss of 7 wickets after the end of 20 overs in this match. Gaikwad scored 57 runs in 37 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes, while kiwi batter Conway played an inning of 47 off 29 balls which included five fours and two sixes.
Apart from this, the left-handed batter Shivam Dube scored 27 runs in 16 balls which included one four and three sixes. With this, CHE also became the team to cross the 200-run mark for the most number of times in IND T20 League history, with 24 times so far. While chasing this big target KL Rahul-led Lucknow fell short by 12 runs in the end.
