Mushfiqur Rahim Out of West Indies Test Series: Injury Forces Star Cricketer to Withdraw
Mushfiqur Rahim Ruled Out of West Indies Test Series Due to Injury
Bangladesh's wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies starting on November 22, the national selection panel announced on Friday.
Mushfiqur, who is undergoing rehabilitation for a fractured left index finger he sustained in the first ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah, has gone out of the ongoing three-match ODI series.
The recovery period for Mushfiqur is at least four to six weeks, making it impossible for him to play in the Test series. "He will not be playing the Test series against West Indies as the recovery will take at least a month or more," the selector confirmed.
No less a star than Mushfiqur is missing, but there's still hope he will be available for the ODI leg, which runs after the Tests. The selectors will review his progress before taking a final call.
However, Mushfiqur batted at number seven in the first ODI against Afghanistan, as he had been nursing an injury, though still ruled out for the rest of the ODI series. Plans for his return remain optimistic pending recovery.
Curiously, no step has been taken to seek Mushfiqur's replacement in the ODI side working on his injury. Although there were rumours that Litton Das, who is also travelling to Dubai, might be drafted in, the selector has ended those speculations, stating that Litton is travelling to Dubai for personal reasons and will join up with the team during the West Indies tour.
Bangladesh will miss Mushfiqur Rahim, a stalwart for the team, ahead of their games against the West Indies.
