Nabi overtakes Shakib to claim the top spot in ODI rankings
Nabi dethrones Shakib to become ODI's top ranked all rounder
Afghanistan stalwart Mohammat Nabi has displaced Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh at the top of ODI rankings on Wednesday. Before this, Shakib had held the position for almost five years.
It is to be noted that Shakib hasn’t made an ODI appearance for Bangladesh since the recently concluded ODI World Cup, and has been ruled out of their forthcoming series against Sri Lanka due to an eye condition. However, the 36 year old has been seen in action for Rangpur Riders (RR) in the ongoing edition of Bangladesh T20 League.
Nabi secured the top spot following his blistering knock of 136 against Sri Lanka in the inaugural ODI of the three match series, in Pallekele. Chasing a monumental 382 for victory, Nabi’s century at Number 7 and Azamatullah Omarzai’s unbeaten 149 lifted the visitors from 55/5, but the team unfortunately fell short by 42 runs. The former skipper also picked a wicket in the same game to climb up by one place to seventh in the latest ODI bowlers’ ranking.
South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj remains to lead the bowlers’ chart. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga moved up 14 spots to equal 26th and Dilshan Madhushanka gained four spots and is currently placed at 33rd.
Meanwhile, in the Test bowling rankings, New Zealand speedster Kyle Jamieson went up six places to eight after his impressive six-fer against South Africa in the series opener at Mount Maunganui. He also ascended two places to be 13th on the list for Test all rounders.
