Bangladesh (BAN) is set to host New Zealand (NZ) for a three match ODI series starting from September 21, Thursday. The series opener will be played at Mirpur. 

BAN’s 2023 Asia Series campaign came to an end at the ‘Super Four’ stage as they were defeated by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, although they earned a hard fought victory against India. Now, the Liton Das led side will shift their focus to the ODI series in preparations for the ODI World Series starting next month. Senior players Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan and Taskin Ahmed have been rested for the series whereas former captain and opening batter Tamim Iqbal and veteran all rounder Mahmudullah Riyadh make a return to the squad. 

New Zealand finished their ODI series in England on a dismal note. They lost three matches on the bounce and eventually suffered a 1-3 series defeat. The Black caps will look to shrug off the slump against the Three Lions and start afresh. They have made substantial changes to their lineup with Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips being rested. Tim Southee, who picked a thumb fracture in the final ODI against England, will also be unavailable for the series.

The match being played in Mirpur suits the home side, who have spent the previous month playing in familiar subcontinent conditions during the 2023 Asia ODI Series. New Zealand on the other hand, are coming off a 1-3 drubbing against England. The tracks over there were flat with little to no assistance to spinners.
