Jason Holder ruled out of the T20 World Series 2024

West Indies suffered a massive injury blow ahead of the T20 World Series 2024. Veteran all rounder Jason Holder while playing for Worcestershire in the County Championship picked up an unspecified injury that has ruled him out of the global event. Left arm fast bowler Obed McCoy, who is playing in the ongoing series against the Proteas, has been named as Holder’s replacement.

Cricket West Indies hasn’t mentioned the gravity of Holder’s injury or timelines of his recovery. "Jason is an experienced player in our set-up. His absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field," said chief selector Desmond Haynes. "We look forward to having a fully fit Jason with us again soon.

"While it is unfortunate to lose a player of Jason's calibre, we are confident in the abilities of Obed McCoy. Obed has shown remarkable skill and promise in his performances, and this opportunity will allow him to further showcase his talent on the international stage. We believe he will bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the squad."

CWI also announced a group of five reserve players from which a replacement player will be picked if any further injury within the squad takes place. Co hosts and two time champions of the T20 World Series start their campaign against Papua New Guinea on June 2.

Squad: Rovman Powell (c), Alzarri Joseph (vc), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Obed McCoy, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford.

Reserves: Kyle Mayers, Matthew Forde, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh, Andre Fletcher.
