Australia name 15 men squad for the ODI World Series 

Sean Abbot has earned a chance to compete in the forthcoming ODI World Series for the very first time in his career after being included in Australia’s 15 man squad. Australia had already announced an initial 18 member squad before the South Africa tour and from that bunch, they have released Aaran Hardie, Nathan Ellis and Tanveer Sangha. 

The all rounder made his debut in ODIs nearly nine years ago in October 2014 but mustered to represent the Kangaroos in the format only 11 times. 

Abbott’s inclusion also underscores Australia’s preference to opt for an allrounder heavy squad for the showpiece event in India. The men in yellow have Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Chris Green as the seam bowling all rounders. And besides the trio, they now have Abbot and captain Pat Cummins as well, both able enough to contribute with bat in hand down the order. 

Glen Maxwell, Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa are the three spin bowling alternatives available for the five time champions with Maxwell believed to recuperate ahead of the marquee event.  Besides Maxwell, Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith are also recovering from injuries but they all are expected to be a part of the ODI against India ahead of the tournament. 

"All are well placed to come back online in the coming weeks and potentially for selection in the upcoming series against India," said selection chief George Bailey. "There are eight one-day matches still to play in South Africa and India before the final squad is due to be declared. They are followed by two World Cup practice games, which offers plenty of opportunity to continue the build for the tournament."

Australia has the luxury to make changes to their squad until September 28, the International Cricket Council authorised deadline. They commence their World Series campaign against the hosts India in Chennai on October 8.
