Rahul Dravid is all set to become the new head coach of Rajasthan

Former Indian batter Rahul Dravid is all set to play a new role in his cricket career. The 51-year-old Dravid is linked with Rajasthan, an Indian T20 League franchise, and he will soon become the new head coach of this side for the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League in 2025.

The former T20 World Series winner coach’s tenure ended in June 2024 after winning his maiden International title as a coach with the team. Earlier, former Sri Lankan batter Kumar Sangakkara was leading Rajasthan in the Indian T20 League and joined the Pink Army as a Director of Cricket in 2021. Under his leadership Rajasthan had some great success in the past, however, he failed to win a title with this side. However, they will not be the head coach but will remain associated with the Rajasthan side. The 46-year-old Sangakkara will handle the franchise's work in the Caribbean T20 League and South Africa T20 League.

Rahul Dravid has recently signed this deal with the Rajasthan franchise. According to report, he started his work as soon as he joined the franchise. Before the mega auction, the new coach of the team discussed the retention of the players. According to the report, Rajasthan is also roping to sign former Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour as assistant coach. He has also been a selector of the Indian team. The 51-year-old Rathour was part of Rahul Dravid's coaching staff at the National Cricket Academy. Then in 2019, he was made the batting coach by the Indian Cricket Board and held this responsibility till the T20 World Series 2024.

Rahul Dravid has had a long association with Rajasthan, he was the captain of the team in the 2012 and 2013 seasons in the Indian T20 League. At the same time, in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he played the role of team director and mentor. Not only this, Dravid also has a long experience of working with Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson. He has been under Dravid's supervision since his Under-19 days. In 2019, he was sent to NCA, and then in 2021, he was made the head coach of Team India.

Rajasthan won the inaugural Indian T20 League competition under the leader of late Aussie spin-wizard Shane Warne in 2008. Since then Pink Army has not been able to win the IND T20 League title. They did manage to reach the finals of 2022 but could not edge past the Gujarat side in the mega-match of the tournament. Last season, Rajasthan was eliminated after losing in Qualifier 2. It will be exciting to see how this new inning of Rahul Dravid will go for the pink army.
