Ravi Ashwin's wife pens down a heartfelt message for the spin wizard
India’s spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin became the second-ever Indian bowler and the ninth in the overall cricketing world to pick up 500 wickets in Test cricket. This came during the third Test match against England in Rajkot, where the ‘Men in Blue’ clinched a ground-breaking victory by a margin of 434 runs. This also marked India’s biggest win in Test cricket in terms of runs.
Ashwin was on the 499 wicket mark at the end of the second Test match in Visakhapatnam and his 500th one came in the form of Zak Crawley’s wicket in the third Test.
The 37-year-old achieved this amazing feat in just 98 Test matches making him the second-fastest bowler in Test history after the Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Murlitharan who rules the chart with 87 Tests.
Also, with this, Ashwin became the ninth bowler to cross the 500-wicket mark besides the great Anil Kumble who took 619 wickets in 132 matches.
After winning the third Test, Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan took to social media to post a heartfelt message for her husband.
"500. We chased the 500 to Hyderabad, it didn't happen. To Vizag, it didn't happen. So I just bought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home at 499. 500 came and went quietly. Till it didn't. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48 hours of our lives," Prithi penned down in her note.
"But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What a phenomenal guy. I am insanely proud of you @rashwin99 We love you!," she wrote.
Ashwin left for Chennai due to a family emergency just after reaching his long-desired milestone of 500 Test wickets on the second day of the match. Although he returned to action during the post-tea session on the fourth day of the 3rd Test.
