RefCam to be used in PL for the first time

Monday night’s game between Crystal Palace and Manchester United will see the usage of ‘RefCam’ for the very first time in the Premier League.

Jared Gillet, the match referee for the clash, will wear a head mounted device which is integrated into the habitual referee communications system.

It will give the referee’s point of view on how all decisions are taken, and how interactions between officials and players happen.

The video will not be broadcasted live but will later be used in the year as part of a show which the Premier League believes will provide "further insight and education into the demands of officiating in the Premier League."

“RefCam” was used in one of the games of Bundesliga this season. The match between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg to offer insights into the referee’s pov and the work of the VAR in a 26-minute documentary .

Prior to moving to English football, Gillett took a similar role five years back during his final Australian A-League match between the Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar, which received heaps of praise.

His performance was recorded and critical extracts of the way he oversaw and took decisions that were subsequently broadcasted.
