Rohit Sharma not provided any assurance regarding his place in T20 squad by the Indian Apex Council for Cricket

The Apex Council for Cricket in India has confirmed that there is no assurance of Rohit Sharma’s position in the T20 squad. 

Previously there were reports that the skipper wanted a surety from the apex council before agreeing to lead the team in the marquee event which will be played in the West India and USA in June next year. The secretary of the Apex Council of Indian Cricket has confirmed that no assurance can be provided to Rohit regarding his selection for the T20 team. There are high chance that Rohit should be part of the team for June 3-30th’s International event and some media sources also indicate that the 36-year-old has requested clarity over his role in the T20 team.

Rohit has not played a single T20I game since the last T20 World Cup and Suryakumar Yadav was recently appointed the leader of the Indian cricket team who won the Australia T20I series by a margin of 4-1 and will now lead the team against a three-match T20I Series against South Africa. 

“We have a T20I series against Afghanistan and the Indian T20 League before the T20 World Cup and we will take a good decision,” Jay Shah stated.

There is also a chance of a potential return for Indian star all-rounder Hardik Pandya as per reports. Jay Shah also provided an update on the all-rounder’s fitness. “He is at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is working hard for his return. The medical staff is monitoring him on a daily basis. He can be fit even before the Afghanistan series,” he added.

Mohammad Shami is likely to be included in the Test series against South Africa. Shami’s ankle injury has been concerning him since the World Cup 2023. “Shami could play the Test series against South Africa. He is not at the NCA at the moment but will go there. We are confident that he will be fine,”
