Ronaldo's winner powered Portugal to secure a 2-1 win over Scotland

Portugal successfully defeated Scotland with a score of 2-1 in the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League match held at the Estadio da Luz, Lisbon on Sunday(08th September). The former Euro Cup winners fell behind first following Scott McTominay's goal at the start of the match who scored a goal in the 7th minute of the game. The hosts were able to bounce back in the second half through goals scored by Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Thanks to this result, Portugal now sits at the top of League A Group 1 with 6 points from two matches. Meanwhile, The Scotts are languishing at the bottom of the standings with no points at all. The match had only been going on for seven minutes, and Portugal's goal had already been breached. A crossing sent by Kenny McLean from the left side was successfully headed by McTominay to beat Diogo Costa.

Portugal tried to reply, however, several opportunities obtained by the hosts failed to be maximized into goals. Scotland's 1-0 lead lasted until halftime. Returning from the dressing room, Portugal also fielded Ronaldo and Ruben Neves. As a result, Bruno Fernandes successfully equalized the score in the 54th minute with a hard shot from outside the penalty box.

Portugal continued to besiege Scotland's defence. The hosts successfully turned the score around in the 88th minute through Ronaldo's close-range shot following Nuno Mendes' crossing who scored his 901st goal of his career. The final score of the match was 2-1.
