Shubman Gill comes out in all praises of Gautam Gambhir as a coach
Ahead of Team India’s forthcoming three-match T20I tour to Sri Lanka, the freshly appointed vice-captain Shubman Gill comes out in all praises for the new head coach Gautam Gambhir for his positive intent towards the team.
The 24-year-old opening batter praised the game sense of the new head coach who will be on his first assignment with the team following the end of Rahul Dravid’s stint. Gill disclosed the details of the first two practice sessions under Gambhir, saying that the former WC champion has expressed his expectations very clearly to each and every member of the squad.
“Though we’ve had only two brief practice sessions together, his intent and communication have been remarkably clear. In that short time, he has demonstrated a keen understanding of what each player needs to succeed and a clear vision for how to help them achieve their goals,” said Shubman Gill.
Gill also revealed that the new head coach along with the new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav have a similar approach, which will produce positive outcomes on the field.
“They (Suryakumar and Gambhir) share a similar mindset and approach to the game. Having played under Suryakumar’s captaincy in South Africa, I’ve witnessed their aligned understanding firsthand. This will be brought to the field, producing great results for the team,” he added.
Previously, Gill has led Team India to a 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe in the recently concluded five-match T20I series. The dynamic opener also scored two half-centuries 66 (49) and 58* (39) in the third and fourth T20I matches respectively.
Suryakumar Yadav has been selected as team India’s new T20I lead, replacing the front-runner Hardik Pandya following Rohit Sharma’s retirement. Yet, the team management opted for Suryakumar Yadav due to Pandya’s fitness issues.
