Siddharth Kaul retires from Indian Cricket
Pace bowler Siddharth Kaul has announced his decision to retire from Indian cricket, concluding a professional career that spanned 17 years. The 34-year-old made three appearances apiece for India in both ODI and T20I. He took to social media (Instagram) to make the announcement.
When I was a child playing cricket in the fields in Punjab, I had one dream. A dream to represent my country. In 2018, by God's grace, I received my India Cap Number 75 in the T20I team and Cap Number 221 in the ODI team," he wrote. "The time has now come to call time on my career in India and announce my retirement."
Kaul’s biggest achievement came back in 2008, when he, under Virat Kohli’s leadership played a massive role in India’s triumphant Under-19 campaign. He was a regular starter for Punjab’s white ball teams in the domestic circuit over the year, a journey that included a cup-winning Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in the 2023-24 season, in which he finished as the team’s top wicket-taker - 16 wickets in 10 games. Kaul was also amongst the wickets for his side in last year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Besides this, Kaul played three County Championship games for Northamptonshire earlier this year and two games of the current Ranji Trophy campaign but went wicketless in both matches. Overall, he has picked 297 wickets from 88 first-class games at 26.77.
In the Indian T20 League, Kaul has played 55 games across three franchises- Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru- taking 37 wickets for Hyderabad in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, which earned him a national team call-up on India’s tour of England in 2018. Kaul was also part of India’s triumphant Asia Cup campaign that year and made the last of his six appearances for India in February 2019.
