Sophie Devine Extends Tenure with Perth Scorchers For 2 More Seasons

Highly-rated New Zealand captain Sophie Devine has signed a pre-draft agreement for a two-year extension to continue representing Perth Scorchers (SCO) in the Women's Aus-T20 competition.

Last season she was indispensable to SCO, making 489 runs at an average of 37.61, with a century against Brisbane Heat - also the team that beat them in the Challenger final - and taking 14 wickets.

The signing means Devine is SCO's third-highest run-scorer in the league's history, sitting behind only Beth Mooney and Elyse Villani of Australia.

Speaking about his decision to remain with the club, Devine further added, "For me, coming back to Perth was a no-brainer. I have built such a special connection with the players and staff over the past four seasons, and I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else."

While SCO is yet to announce a new deal for Mooney, it is believed that she will stay with the outfit. The Scorchers have also picked up Mikayla Hinkley from HEA this off-season.

Last term, it included the English trio of Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Lauren Winfield-Hill. However, Sciver-Brunt confirmed that she would not feature this time due to her hectic international schedule.

The Women's Aus-T20 League will start just a week after the conclusion of the World T20 League and will clash with England's tour of South Africa, which finishes towards the end of November.

Devine's deal arrived only after the news that Chamari Athapaththu had sealed a three-year contract with Sydney Thunder early last week. Only Adelaide Strikers (STR) and Hobart Hurricanes (HUR) do not have any pre-draft signings.
