Angelo Mathews, Dushmantha Chameera called up as travelling reserves
Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chammera have been called in with immediate effect as travelling reserves for the ongoing edition of the Men’s ODI World Cup in India. The decision has been made for the team management to deal with the increasing injuries and illness that has caused a few headaches and is likely to persist.
Injuries have afflicted the Lankans well before the tournament when ace all rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was ruled out of the marquee event. Mahesh Theekshana missed out the opening game of the World Cup
Pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana and captain Dasun Shanaka are the recent additions to the injury list with the latter having been ruled out of the competition already. Chamika Karunaratne has officially replaced Shanaka in the squad.
Mathews and Chameera are believed to join the team on Friday, a day prior to their next fixture against the Dutch in Lucknow. By the way Chameera was initially ruled out of the tournament but is said to regain full fitness now. Considering the team’s issues in the bowling department, Chameera’s addition in the department will certainly bolster their bowling prowess.
