Mumbai sign Luke Wood as a replacement for injured Jason Beherendorff

Mumbai have signed English pacer Luke Wood as a replacement for the injured Jason Beherndorff, who recently broke his leg during training, for Ind T20 League 2024.

Wood has been roped in for his base price for INR 50 Lakh.

Wood has 147 scalps from 140 T20 appearances which includes five matches for England. While he has featured in numerous T20 leagues like the Aus-T20 League, Pak-T20 League and Aus T20 League, besides The Hundred, this will be his maiden Ind T20 League stint.

Behrendorff was ruled out after he broke his leg in an unusual manner while training in Perth last Thursday just before he was supposed to leave India.

The untimely injury to Behrendorff has left the five time champions things to ponder upon.  Their pace bowling department will be led by seamer Dilshan Madhushanka but even he picked up an injury during the second ODI against Bangladesh. He is expected to miss the initial stages of the tournament.

Jasprit Bumrah, Nuwan Thushara, Akash Madhwal and Arjun Tendulkar are the other pace bowlers available in Mumbai’s roster, while their new skipper Hardik Pandya has confirmed that he is fit to bowl in the league. Romario Shepherd is the other notable seam-bowling all rounder in their ranks.

Top order batter Suryakumar Yadav, who is recuperating after two surgeries, is also a uncertainty for Mumbai’s inaugural match against Gujarat.
