Marcus Stoinis signs a three year extension for Melbourne Stars in the Aus T20 League

Australia all rounder Marcus Stoinis has signed a three year contract extension for the Melbourne Stars (STA) in the Aus T20 League. This will take him through until the end of Aus T20 League 16 in 2026/27.

STA had numerous players coming out of contract with the hard hitting all rounder being amongst the biggest stars and other franchises had shown interest to lure him, including Perth Scorchers (SCO) given he is from Perth and plays his domestic cricket for Western Australia.

Stoinis began his Aus T20 League career at SCO playing three games for them in the 2012/13 season before moving to STA the subsequent season and has made 98 appearances since. He will become the second STA player to have 100 caps for the franchise after Glenn Maxwell.

Stoinis is also a top candidate for the position of captain after Maxwell stepped down from the role at the end of last season.

The all rounder has been named in Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies and is optimistic to be part of the T20 World Cup squad. But after being overlooked for the ODI series he disclosed that he will be playing more T20 franchise cricket in the next year or so and seems unlikely to get another Cricket Australia central contract the following season.

He is currently competing in the SA20 League playing for the Durban’s Super Giants (DSG), who are owned by his Ind T20 League franchise Lucknow. He was also part of the inaugural Major T20 League tournament in US last year for San Francisco.
