Suryakumar Yadav is likely to miss the first couple of matches in the Indian T20 League
The very dependable batter of the team and one of the biggest stars in the Mumbai franchise, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to miss the first couple of matches of the Indian T20 League. He is currently recovering from the hairline fracture that he suffered during the West Indies series and is currently at the NCA for clearing multiple tests, before joining the team.
Mumbai will be challenging Delhi in their first match of the season on 27th of March. Yadav is a key player for the Mumbai middle order as he rescued the team on numerous occasions. Now, everyone is more or less aware that Mumbai never starts the season in a grand manner. They often lose the first couple of matches before gaining momentum. This year, the team cannot afford that. It is now well established that the Mumbai team this season lacks depth and the team isn’t as strong as it used to be in the previous years. On top of that, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last season and thus, they need to start the season with a bang. Without Suryakumar in the middle, the team will definitely be under a lot of pressure.
A source close to the board told PTI, “Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair. So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board's medical team to not risk playing the opener”.
