Team India declares new captain in T20I format as they announce squad for Sri Lanka tour

 

Team India have declared Suryakumar Yadavas the captain of their Senior Men’s T20I Cricket Team for the tour of Sri Lanka later this month. Shubman Gill unde whose captaincy India won the recently concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe has been named the vice-captain of both the T20I and ODI sides.

‘Sky’ is presently the second-ranked Indian batter in the World T20I rankings. The middle-order batter, who often played the role of a finisher with his destructive knocks has played 68 T20Is and previously led the team against Australia and South Africa last year in the absence of prime 

Suryakumar Yadav, the No.2 ranked India batter in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, has been named as the T20I captain ahead of the Sri Lanka series.

The middle-order batter, who has played 68 T20Is, led the team against Australia and South Africa last year in the absence of key players now has been promoted to direct the team in the shortest format of the game.  

The T20I squad looks packed with several T20 World Cup stars like Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel, who joined the squad after missing the Zimbabwe series.  

India’s speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the Sri Lanka tour while the duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play the One Day Internationals.

Team India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka marks the debut of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach. The ex-Indian batter steps up into this role following Rahul Dravid’s departure after leading the Men in Blue to victory in the Men’s T20 WC 2024. 

India will travel to Sri Lanka for a bilateral series which will be the first time since 2021. 

Suryakumar Yadav has overwhelmed in the T20 WC 2024 will some exceptional batting skills. A new chapter would begin for Team India now under the guidance of their new head coach, with transitions in players too including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, who all retired from the shortest format of the game following their T20 WC 2024 triumph. 

The ODI squad will also feature KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the wicketkeepers with Sanju Samson missing out. 

Star pacer Harshit Raha who impressed with his bowling skills in the Indian T20 League 2024 season for the winning side Kolkata, makes it to the ODI squad alongside Khaleel Ahmed.
