Ten-Day Trading Window Introduced for Aus-T20 League
Ten-day trading window introduced for Men and Women's Aus-T20 League
A trading window has been initiated for the Men and Women’s Australian-T20 League, which will commence following the conclusion of both competitions this summer and will be applicable for 10 days.
Called the Player Movement Window, founded ‘to assist players and clubs to make earlier contracting decisions’, it will be open to the teams for 10 days after the Women’s and Men’s Aus-T20 League finals. During these 10 days, the franchises can: 1. Trade a player with another franchise; 2. Sign a player from another team who is in the final year of their present contract; 3. Trade Overseas Player Draft positions as part or independent of player trades.
The trading window for the Women’s Aus T20 League is valid from December 2 to December 11. Likewise, the window for the Men’s Aus T20 League will start on January 28, 2025, and will conclude on February 6, 2025.
However, the clubs will not be permitted to extend contracts or resign their players during this period. These contracts are bound by the contracting embargo and ought be signed either before or after it is lifted. The embargo starts after the end of both leagues’ home and away season and is believed to be lifted in March 2025.
The teams will; also be bound by maximum list sizes. For the Women’s Aus T20 League a side can have up to 8 players before the window and 10 after it. The Men’s Aus T20 League teams are allowed up to 10 players before the window and 12 at its conclusion. Pre-signed overseas players, who are contracted to teams on multi-year deals, will be part of the limits.
Players such as Lizelle Lee (HUR), Chamari Athapaththu (THU), Sophie Devine (SCO), Marizanne Kapp (STA), Nadine de Klerk (HEA), and Amelia Kerr (SIX) have secured multi-year contracts in the WBBL. In the BBL, Finn Allen (Scorchers), Colin Munro (Heat), Tim Seifert (Renegades), Chris Jordan (HUR), and Tom Curran (STA) are signed for the next two seasons, while Sam Billings (THU) has a contract extending to the end of next season.
The only opportunity for teams to make changes to their rosters during the embargo period will be the 10-day player movement window.
The introduction of Player Movement Windows immediately following the Weber Women’s Aus-T20 League|10 and Aus-T20 League|14 seasons will add another strategic dimension to our Leagues," said Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia's Executive General Manager, Aus-T20 Leagues. "The Windows will add certainty and stability for players and clubs at a crucial period in the list management cycle.
"These new milestones on the Aus-T20 League calendar will also increase talkability among our fans, broadcasters and the media as we grow our year-round presence. Our thanks go to our Aus-T20 League clubs and the Australian Cricketers' Association for their collaboration on this project," added Dobson.
