Mason Greenwood return to United could be snubbed by Ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag could rebuff Mason Greenwood even if the club permits his return this season due to a conceivably golden opportunity in the transfer market. Portuguese youngster Joao Felix reportedly may become a free agent soon in the future, which could prompt United to rekindle their interest.

United were linked with a possible swoop for Felix in January as the Dutch manager scoured the market for attacking options after Cristiano Ronaldo’s premature departure.

Ten Hag allegedly joined the race with Newcastle United and Aston Villa for the acquisition of services for the 23 year old after he inquired agent Jorge Mendes to find a possible solution.

United eventually signed Wout Werghost on a short term loan, while Felix made a temporary move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea until the end of 2022-23 season.

But his soured relationship with Los Colchoneros following his return to the club this summer has continued his struggles since a massive £113 million transfer from Benfica in 2019.

And Spanish reports have stated that Felix is considering extreme measures to permanently cut ties with the Spanish professional football club.

According to a LaSexta report, the Portuguese forward and his camp are trying to terminate his Atleti contract for good.

Felix is said to have made a return to Wanda Metropolitano with the intention of parting ways, but that hasn’t yet come to fulfilment.

With Ten Hag raring to bring another striker apart from £72m Rasmus Hojlund before the summer deadline, he could sense the chance to act.

Felix’s potential move to Old Trafford could obstruct Greenwood’s path to reinstating his status as a player in the United side.

And tensions boiled while Felix didn’t get the playing time in Atletico’s season opener against Granada. Madrid’s fans jeered and aimed boos towards the No.18, bolstering his desire for a new challenge elsewhere.

If the 21 year old is reincorporated- as Richard Arnold, club chief executive originally planned to declare at the start of August- he faces stern competition as it is.

Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial make up Ten Hag’s attacking unit.

Bringing Felix to the mix would instantaneously reduce Greenwood’s minutes as a striker/right winger, considering he would need time to regain match fitness and intensity. Onlin

It will be interesting to see how United loads steep salary demands onto the club’s wage , and the player has openly shared his interest to play for Barcelona.

But his availability as a possible free agent would surely attract numerous clubs. An avenue  definitely too intriguing to not explore.
