MS Dhoni’s Iconic No.7 Jersey Retired By The Indian Cricket Board

The Indian Cricket Board decided to pay a rich tribute to the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni by retiring his Jersey No.7. The shirt became synonymous with MS Dhoni in the Indian cricket fraternity. The 42-year-old wicketkeeper batter is the most successful captain in the Indian cricket history. While another cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey No.10 was also retired by the Indian Cricket Board, a proposal has been made to add Thala’s No.7 shirt to the list as well, to honour the contributions of the dynamic finisher has madefor the Indian Cricket Team in the game.

Now it is well understandable that the Indian Cricket Board has informed their players cannot wear the No.7 jersey, just like no one is allowed to select the No.10 shirt.

"The young players and current Indian team players have been told not to pick M S Dhoni's Number 7 jersey. The BCCI has decided to retire Dhoni's T-shirt for his contribution to the game. A new player can't get No. 7, and No. 10 was already off the list of available numbers," stated a senior Board official.

During his early days in the Indian Cricket team, the pacer turned all-rounder Shardul Thakur used to wear the No.10 shirt for a short period. However, the jersey number was soon retired. In the meantime, Dhoni’s No.7 shirt was taken out of each player’s reach as the Indian Cricket Board acted swiftly.

The Indian Board official also affirmed that a total of 60 numbers have been allotted to the Indian team’s players.

"At present, 60-odd numbers are designated to the regulars in the Indian team and those in contention. So even if a player is out of the team for about a year or so, we don't give away his number to a new player. That means a recent debutant has just 30-odd numbers to choose from," said an Indian Cricket Board official.
