Gavaskar demands strict action for players leaving the Indian League early
Ex-Indian cricketer batter Sunil Gavaskar has condemned the England Cricket Board for asking their World T20 League 2024 players to return to their country early. The cricketing great has urged action against the cricketers and the board for this action.
“For me, the country comes first. However, if you have agreed to play the full season of the Indian T20 League, you should keep your commitment. You are letting the franchise down by not honouring your words. Players are making good money,” Gavaskar
“Franchises should be allowed to deduct the money from the amount a player was bought for. Even the boards shouldn’t get the 10 per cent commission of the fee that each player gets.
“If the boards don’t allow their players to continue, they should also get penalized. They are getting 10 percent commission and this practice is followed only in the Indian league. The Indian Cricket Council doesn’t get an appreciation for taking care of the other cricketing bodies.
Just a couple of weeks back, the England Cricket Board asked several cricketers to return home to play the series against Pakistan, beginning on May 22.
Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Reece Topley and Will Jacks are part of the ‘Three Lions’ squad for the World T20 League 2024.
