After Sarfaraz, Now Brother Musheer’s Ranji Performance Making Their Father Proud

Mumbai batsman Musheer Khan shared a message that he received from his brother Sarfaraz Khan after getting out poorly in his first innings of the Test match against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 Final. The 19-year-old player failed to display his extraordinary skills with the bat in Mumbai’s first innings at the Wankhede stadium on March 11 but went on to play a tremendous innings scoring a ton in the second innings of the game. Both brothers have made their father Naushad Khan, with their impressive performance for the Indian Test Side and Mumbai Domestic Team respectively.

Musheer's wicket came in for just 6 runs off 12 deliveries by left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey in Mumbai’s first innings but went on smashing 136 runs to help his team put up a mammoth 538-run target for the Vidarbha side to chase. While speaking to the press after the second innings, the Mumbai batter shared the words of encouragement he got from his brother after his first innings failure.

"When I got out (cheaply) in the first innings, (he told me) it's okay, back yourself in the second innings and play your game. He told me to bat the way I found was comfortable," Musheer said.

He also said that even before the final game started, Sarfaraz had requested his brother to shy away from family pressure and participate in the final with an open mind.

"I had spoken with bhai (Sarfaraz) earlier and he told me that this is a good opportunity for me in the final, with everyone watching. If I would make runs here, it would be better for me in the future," Musheer added to his statement.

Musheer’s innings came along with famous Indian batters Shreyas Iyer’s 95 and Ajinkya Rahane’s 73. Mumbai was brought out of their initial troubles in the second innings of the game, eventually bringing them into the steering seat.

Musheer and Shreyas moved on to produce a key 168-run partnership for the fourth wicket within just 256 deliveries.

Vidarbha went on the back foot in their huge run chase as they lost five of their players in the follow-up on Day 4 of the final match. Musheer is also contributing in the bowling department picking up 2 of the wickets so far.
