Travis Head speaks on his match-defining knock against England
England’s white-ball teams got off to a wobbly start with a 28-run loss against the Kangaroos on Wednesday in the first of the three T20I matches between the oldest cricket rivals.
The Aussies padded up first and were bowled out for 179 runs with three deliveries remaining. The score was a bit under-par as of the average at the Utilia Bowl in Southampton. The team managed to score 86 in the powerplays which was 118-2 in 10 overs. Travis Head played a thunderous knock of 59 runs, hitting a half-century off just 19 balls including eight fours and four sixes.
The other two games are scheduled to be played at Cardiff on Friday and at Manchester on Sunday. After the completion of the T20I series, both sides will compete in a five-match ODI series, where there is a possibility for the return of Jos Buttler, who is currently on the bench due to his injury in the right calf.
Australia’s seasoned side with in-form players is giving too much competition to the hosts. The Aussies were off to a fantastic start with Head hitting hard, getting all needed support from Matthew Short (41 off 26).
Head also smashed 30 runs in the first over which was bowled by Sam Curran.
“I’d love to go out and whack it every time,” said Head, who was Australia’s star performer in its recent triumph in last year’s ODI WC final against India. “I know that’s not going to be the case every time, but I’m in a nice bit of form at the moment, and I want to continue that. I’m taking my chances.”
