Uganda qualifies for the World Cup T20 2024 in the last place, Zimbabwe knocked out

Uganda creates history as they have qualified for the World Cup T20 2024 which will be played in the Caribbean and the USA. With their inclusion, all 20 teams have been confirmed for the mega event in the shortest format of the game. Namibia is the only second team from the African region to qualify for the marquee event. In the meantime, the most heartbreaking news came as Zimbabwe missed out on the World Cup for the second straight time as they missed out on the World Cup ODI qualifiers as well.

The Zimbabwe side prayed for Rwanda’s victory over the qualifiers’ Uganda to have a ray of hope to make it to the World Cup T20 2024. But Uganda knocked out Rwanda for just a score of 65 runs in their final match of the tournament and chased down the below-par total in just 8.1 overs with 9 wickets to spare to register their fifth win in six matches of this tournament.

The saddest part of the story is that Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe faced off against Kenya posting a mammoth score of 217 runs in their 20 overs and bowled over the opponents for just 107 runs. But even if they won by such a massive feat they won’t qualify for the marquee event and their losses against Uganda and Namibia will be hard to go down their throat.

The World Cup T20 contenders are now confirmed with West Indies and the USA qualifying automatically being the hosts of the tournament while the top 8 teams from World Cup T20 2022 will also play in this edition of the grand event. The two Asian giants Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified on the basis of the T20I rankings while the remaining eight teams went through via Europe Qualifier (2 teams), East Asia-Pacific Qualifier (1 team), Americas Qualifier (1 team), Asia Qualifier (2 teams) and Africa Qualifier (2 teams).

Countries to qualify for T20 World Cup 2024:

West Indies, USA, Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia, Uganda.
