Should Man United hire the services of Carlo Ancelotti next season?

The 56-year-old Arsenal legend Paul Merson has opened his voice regarding who is the candidate for Manchester United's new coach. He believes Carlo Ancelotti is the figure Manchester United needs to rise. In the 2023/2024 season, the Red Devils’ performance can be said to be far from optimal, they have lost a lot of points and are in danger of failing to qualify for Europe next season.

This situation puts Erik Ten Hag's fate on the line it is widely rumoured that the Dutch coach will be fired this summer, with United's management already starting to hunt for a potential replacement. Merson himself believes that Ten Hag will be difficult to defend next summer. "Erik Ten Hag is under enormous pressure, and he could be fired at the end of the season," said Merson in his column for Sportskeeda.

Merson believes that Carlo Ancelotti is the right coach to handle the Red Devils. He assessed that 'Don' Carlo was able to overcome the basic problems experienced by the Red Devils. "I know that Manchester United is looking for a new manager who can be their coach for the long term. But I think they could be suitable with a coach like Carlo Ancelotti," continued Merson. "When I watched Real Madrid's match against Manchester City at the Etihad, I saw how he [Ancelotti] could make Real Madrid's big stars work hard throughout the match to achieve good results in that match. United needs a coach like that."

Furthermore, Merson knows that United's chances of getting Ancelotti's services are very small. However, he believes that United needs a coach with a profile like Ancelotti if they want to recover. "People might wonder why Ancelotti moved to United, but he has won all the championship trophies in Spain several times," continued Merson. "I can't see Ancelotti managing Manchester United, but I think he is the manager they need," he concluded. According to rumours circulating, United will only try to recruit Ancelotti in 2025. The coach reportedly wants to stay one more season at Real Madrid before trying out new challenges in his career.
