West Indies, India fined over slow over-rate
West India, India suffer match fee deduction
West Indies and India have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first T20I at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba on August 3.
Both the teams failed to meet the minimum over-rate during their bowling innings in the inaugural T20I and have thus been penalised.
The visitors fell an over short during the first half, resulting in five per cent of their match fees being reduced. West Indies on the other hand were two overs short, leading to ten cent deduction.
The fines were incurred in accordance with Article 2.2. of the International Cricket Board Code of Conduct for Players and Player Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. As per the law, players are fined five percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allocated time, subject to 50 percent cap of the match fee.
West Indies skipper Rovman Powell and India skipper Hardik Pandya both accepted the offence, implying a supplementary hearing wasn’t required. On-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard along with third and fourth umpires Nigel Duguid and Leslie Reifer levelled the charges.
West Indies began the T20I series with a narrow 4 run win. Batting first they posted a decent total of 149. Their bowlers then successfully defended the total and ensured the hosts to go up in the five match series.
