Sunil Gavaskar angry on some of the Ind T20 League franchises for this reason

Ex-Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar took a dig at the franchises for signing undeserving players in the Indian T20 League. He stated this after the Indian T20 League 2024 final between Kolkata and Hyderabad at the Chepauk. Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata became the champions for the third time following the game. 

The batting side of the Orange Army consisted of several young Indian batters who played unnecessary shots resulting in a total of only 113 runs in the first innings of the game. Kolkata however displayed their dominance by chasing the total in just 10.3 overs. 

Speaking after the match, Gavaskar led a wrath of words on the teams. 

“The teams are making big mistakes of signing players who don’t deserve to play in the Indian T20 League. The undeserving cricketers are not only impacting the standards but also failing to contribute.

“Franchises will have to realise and understand that these players can’t play in the tournament. They are being paid hefty amounts and when they come to the Indian T20 League, their performance levels go down significantly. They can perform in local T20 leagues but not in Indian T20 League.

“There is no need to sign any players from Rajasthan League, Gujarat League, UP League and other competitions,” Sunil Gavaskar added.
