Will Barca Soon Eject Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong at the End of the Season?
Barcelona is said to be considering a move to bring in the German National Team duo, Joshua Kimmich and Jonathan Tah as replacements for Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo. As is known, De Jong and Araujo's contracts in Catalunya will end in 2026, but both have not agreed to new contracts until now.
Therefore, the current Spanish league table toppers Barca is reluctant to take the risk of losing them for free in the next two years and may sell them at the end of this season. Both Araujo and De Jong are key figures in the Barcelona squad, with Araujo as the second captain and De Jong as the third captain. However, the club is still silent about their plans.
Mundo Deportivo reports that the positions left by De Jong and Araujo could be filled by Kimmich and Tah. Kimmich's future at Bayern Munich remains uncertain with his contract expiring in 2025, while Tah has made it clear that he will leave Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer when his deal expires in less than 12 months.
La Bluagrana is interested in the experience that Kimmich and Tah will bring to a squad full of young players. Kimmich also played under new Barca coach Hansi Flick at Bayern. Although Araujo and De Jong are important figures in the Blaugrana dressing room, the club still have no plans for their future and is preparing for them to be sold.
Araujo was linked with a move away from Barcelona in the summer, although club president Joan Laporta tried to convince the player to stay. Meanwhile, De Jong has been more relaxed since Barca held talks with Manchester United over his sale in 2022 when Erik ten Hag was appointed as the Red Devils manager.
