Pakistan are winning the World T20 Series 2022?

The stage is all set for the clash between Pakistan and England to play the final match of the World T20 Series 2022. The match is scheduled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Sydney on Sunday, November 13. Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final to enter the finals on Wednesday. In the second semis, India faced an extremely humiliating defeat against England as they chased down a target of 169 runs in just 16 overs without a single wicket lost. Alex Hales and Jos Buttler smashed an unbeaten 86* and 80* runs respectively. Netizens all around the globe are now getting a deja vu as this same incident was repeated in 1992 when Pakistan defeated England in the finals to lift the Men’s ODI World Series trophy. The Imran Khan-led Pakistan Cricket Team had a poor start but went on to win the cup that year. In that tournament too which was played exactly 20 years ago, Pakistan lost to India and played New Zealand in the Semi-Finals. That is why fans are hoping for the same result this year when Babar Azam led Pakistan's side will defeat the Three-Headed Lions and win the final on Sunday.

Here are some coincidences between Pakistan's campaign in 1992 and the 2022 World Series -

  1. Lost the opening game at Melbourne Cricket Stadium
  2. Lost to India at the Group stage match
  3. Won the last 3 consecutive matches to qualify for the semi-finals
  4. Qualified for semis on the last day with just 1 extra point
  5. To face England in the final
  6. Finally won the World Series in 1992! 2022?
