World Cup ODI 2023

ENG vs. AFG, Match 13

Preview

England and Afghanistan will lock horns on the 14th of October for the 13th match of the World Cup ODI 2023. The game is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

England made a strong comeback after an astounding defeat in the inaugural match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup against New Zealand by 9 wickets. The Three-Headed Lions won their second game against the Bangla Tigers. The opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan scored 52 and 140 runs respectively before Joe Root added another crucial 82 runs to add to the total score of 364 in 50 overs.

In the second innings, Reece Topley ran over the Bangladesh top-order and the game was all under the Englishmen’s control. With a four-fer from Topley, England by a huge margin of 137 runs.

On the other side, Afghanistan started off their World Cup campaign with a loss against India. The Afghans were decent with the bat but failed to make an impact with the ball as Rohit Sharma scored a fabulous century to lead India to a second consecutive win in the World Cup ODI 2023.

The Hashmatullah-led side will face another test against the defending champions England to bring in their first win of the tournament which is not easy to achieve.

Pitch and Weather Report

This track is traditionally known for being batting-friendly with short boundaries. It often offers good bounce and carries the ball well to the boundary. On the track at Arun Jaitley Stadium, spinners can also find assistance as the match progresses, with the pitch tending to wear and crack.

The toss is going to be very crucial on this paradise-like track, the team winning the toss first would like to put a huge target on the scoreboard.

It is expected to be mostly cloudy conditions in Delhi for this match on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is expected to be 35 degrees Celsius and the humidity will be at 38% without any rain interference.

Match Prediction

Afghanistan has failed to perform collectively as a team in spite of efforts from many of their players. In front of the defending champions, things will definitely be much tougher. Also, the strong England batters will probably find it easy to thrash the out-of-form bowling attack of the Afghans. Hence, we fancy England to win this match.
