The 29th match of the World T20 League 2024 will witness a battle between Afghanistan and Papua New Guinea. The match is set to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Friday, June 14. 

This will be the penultimate match for both sides and Afghanistan will be just focusing on winning the game to officially knock out New Zealand from the tournament and book their own slot in the Super 8 stage. PNG, on the other side, having lost their first two games will try to produce an upset when they face the Asian Giants in this match. 

The Rashid Khan-led side started off their campaign with a 125-run victory over Uganda before taking on New Zealand. While skipper Rashid along with Fazalhaq Farooqi led the bowling attack, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran were the heroes with the bat. 

PNG began their tournament with a defeat against the Caribbeans despite being too close to a victory. Their second defeat against Uganda was also an unfortunate one. Their poor batting performance restricted them to a total score of just 77 in the first innings, but their bowlers edged the opponents 26/5. Later a dropped catch turned the tides, making them lose the game by 3 wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Match Prediction

The Afghan side are the clear favourites to win this game. Their team has been brilliant since the commencement of the tournament. It doesn’t seem like PNG will be a potential threat to Rashid Khan and Co. Their main objective will be to recover some of their pride in the remaining matches.
