World T20 League 2024

AUS vs. IND, 51st Match, Super Eight

Preview

India will square off against Australia for the 51st match of the World T20 League 2024. The match is scheduled to be played at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia.

India won their last match against Bangladesh by a massive margin of 50 runs. The Men in Blue batted in the first place and drafted 196 runs for a loss of 5 wickets. The start was perfect as both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli started smashing the opponents from the very first ball. As Rohit Sharma gave off his wicket to Shakib Al Hasan, Virat Kohli continued scoring from the other end. With the contributions of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya 36 and 50 runs respectively steered India to a formidable total of 195 runs.

During the run chase, The Bangla Tigers lost their early wicket in the form of Litton Das. Though Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan tried to rejuvenate the innings with a partnership of 31 runs, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two quick wickets to put the Bangladeshi team under pressure. Rishad Hossain scored 24 off 10 balls but all went in vain as their side fell short of 50 runs at the end of the match.

On the other side was a shocker, as Australia lost against Afghanistan by a 21-run margin in a Super Over thriller. The Afghan side batted first and drafted a total of 148 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Although it was a very tough pitch to bat on, Rahmanullah Gurbaz once again played a splendid innings of 60 runs batting at the top of the order. Ibrahim Zadran also put along 51 runs to reach a fighting total.

The Kangaroos lost Travis Head, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh early during the powerplay overs. Although Glenn Maxwell tried to bring back the spine-chilling 2023 WC memories when he alone remained 201 unbeaten to take his team over the finish line, Gulbadin Naib dismissed him on 59 runs which provided the Afghan side the momentum they needed. The Aussies failed to recover from that point and were bundled for just 127 runs, as Afghanistan made the revenge sweeter with a thumping win of 21 runs.

Pitch and Weather Report

The pitch here is good for batting and the batsmen can take full advantage of the first few overs, especially during the powerplays. Getting runs at a quick pace during the middle overs might not be easy. Spinners and medium-fast bowlers have a good track record on this ground.

The weather predicts a heavy downpour on the match day, with temperatures around 32-27 degrees Celsius.

Match Prediction

The Aussies had a bad day against Afghanistan as their batting collapsed on the spin-friendly pitch except for Glenn Maxwell. They still have a chance to bounce back and fight for a slot in the Semi-Finals. The Indian team on the other side is still unbeaten in this tournament and will try to stay on the winning track. The Kangaroos will come harder at India now and also have a very good team with a perfect balance of seasoned batters and bowlers. Thus despite their loss, we back the Mitchell Marsh side to come on top when they face Rohit Sharma and Co in the Super 8 match of the tournament.
