Ashes 2021-22

 First Test: AUS vs ENG

Preview

After 1956, Australia has appointed a pacer to be leading the test side while England’s Joe Root is ready to take back the prestigious Ashes. The biggest game of cricketing history has seen a lot of drama lately. Yes, mostly coming from the Australian side as their former captain Tim Paine was involved in the sexting scandal and took some time off cricket. The drama continued till the Ashes eve as because of rain and thunderstorm, the practice sessions were called off and the buzz that we can normally see on the eve of Ashes was slightly affected by it.

Nevertheless, the Australians are all pumped for the upcoming Ashes as a new era is starting in the land of Kangaroos. Pat Cummins was the vice captain of the side and will now be leading the troop. A team where there are a number of quality players, team Australia will fancy their chances to retain the Ashes in their home conditions. Alex Carey is also set to make his debut as Tim Paine has made himself unavailable for the above mentioned reason. Even though the team went down against India and lost their unbeaten streak at Gabba, still the team can cause some serious damage to the Englishmen in their ‘foreyard’. They will be looking to build that up against England, it is not going to be a walk in the park. One of the reasons being is of course that England is a top notch team but also that the Australians have not played enough tests in the last one or one and a half years. England on the other hand has played 12 test matches, six home matches and six away ones.

Thus, England will be coming with all the confidence but they are definitely going to miss Jofra Archer in the middle. James Anderson is also not going to play in the first match as the team management wants to give the pacer some time off and manage his workload. When it comes to Joe Root, the captain will be all charged up this time. It’s been quite some time since England had that trophy. Even though Australia will be playing in their home, English players are good enough to tackle them. On paper, both the teams are equal but the only problem is that the three lions shuffle their pack too much and they miss out key players at times; players who can win games for the country.

Pitch Report

There has been a lot of rain in Queensland for quite some time. Even though the Australian skipper believed that the pitch there looked more or less similar, still the team bowling first may just get some advantage with the swing. The game can also be affected in the first couple of days! Getting 350+ is key in this wicket.

AUS vs ENG Probable XIs

AUS: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

Match Prediction

England will be giving their all and their long batting line-up will help but Australians are likely to win the game. The bowling line-up is arguably the best in the world and if batters stick to their plans, it will be tough for England at Gabba.
