Shreyas Iyer ruled out of NZ ODIs due to back injury

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the forthcoming three match ODI series against New Zealand. The Indian Cricket Board, on Tuesday afternoon issued a statement confirming the same. 

He will be heading to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment and management," said the statement.

Rajat Patidar has been named his replacement for the series, with the series opener scheduled on January 18 in Hyderabad.  

Iyer was an integral member of the just concluded series against Sri Lanka, and scored 38 in his last outing in Trivandrum on January 15. 

The nature of the injury, recovery details and other relevant details concerning the injury have not been revealed by the Indian Cricket Board. 

In March 2021, Iyer had suffered an on-field shoulder injury while fielding that resulted in a surgery and had also sidelined him for almost six months. This is his first injury-related issue since then.
