Rain forecast for Ind T20 League 2025 season opener between Kolkata and Bengaluru

Rain could play spoilsport in Saturday’s Ind-T20 League 2025 season opener between reigning champions Kolkata and Rajat Patidar led Bengaluru in Kolkata.

As per a bulletin from the Indian Met Department an “orange alert” has been issued for the region.  "Light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely" is also believed to be till Saturday.

In the lead up to the curtain raiser Kolkata has been affected by short spells of showers with one inter squad practice match being called off after one innings. The city was hit by light rain on Thursday although both sides completed their practice sessions.

However March 22 remains the major issue of concern with the met department saying Friday (match eve) and Saturday could see the maximum amount of rain.

The KOL vs BLR fixture is slated for a 07 pm toss and a 07:30 pm start. The league phase of the tournament allows for an additional hour of time extension, which implies a five-over-a-game side must finish by midnight. In the event of a no result, both sides will share the spoils and secure a point each. Following the season opener at the Eden Gardens, the men in purple and gold travel to Guwahati to play Rajasthan on March 26 while Bengaluru lock horns with Chennai at Chepauk on March 28.

An opening ceremony is also planned before the toss.
