Women's World T20 Cup: England beats Pakistan by a record margin

England Women thrashed the highest-ever total at a Women’s World T20 Cup before defeating the Pakistan side by a record margin of 114 runs in the group stage match on Tuesday, 21 February in Cape Town, South Africa.

The previous winning margin in the tournament was 113 runs which were recorded by South Africa against Thailand in the year 2020.

The English team claimed the trophy last time in 2009, won all four of their group-stage matches and finished as Group B table toppers. Now in the next stage, they will face either New Zealand or South Africa in the Semi-finals.

Nat Sciver-Brunt’s unbeaten knock of 81 runs off 40 deliveries and Danni Wyatt’s excellent 59 runs were perfect to take England’s score to 213 which overtook South Africa’s 195 against Thailand.

The Pakistan side managed to score only 99 runs losing 9 wickets in the process. Charlie Dean and Katherine Sciver-Brunt took two wickets apiece to restrict the Women in Blue.

The only positive fact that the Pakistan side confronted is that their skipper Nida Dar took one wicket in the match to become the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20I cricket.

"Trying to take some momentum into the semis today. The way our batters played today, it was really good," captain Heather Knight stated.
