England Shake-Up: Maddison Misses Out on Euro 2024 Squad

In a surprising turn of events, it is understood that James Maddison will not be part of Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.

The 27-year-old Tottenham attacking midfielder was initially selected as part of the 33-man training group preparing for the summer showpiece. Maddison featured as a 61st-minute substitute in England's 3-0 friendly win against Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James' Park earlier this week and traveled with the squad to London.

However, reports suggest that Maddison is now set to be one of the seven players cut from the final 26-man Euros roster. The PA news agency has confirmed that the talented playmaker has now left the England camp.

Maddison's omission will be a disappointment for the player, who went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but did not make an appearance. He has earned seven caps for the national team to date.

On a more positive note for England, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has returned to training after a lengthy injury layoff. The 28-year-old's recovery boosts his chances of making Southgate's final squad, having featured in just 15 games for United last season.

England will face Iceland in their last pre-tournament friendly at Wembley on Friday evening, with the deadline to submit the 26-man Euro 2024 squad to UEFA just over an hour later. Southgate's final selection is scheduled to be announced on Saturday morning.
