Indian Cricket Legend Gautam Gambhir on Dasun Shanaka’s Indian T20 2023 Auction

India’s 2007 and 2011 World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir shared his thought about Sri Lankan Skipper Dasun Shanaka and his chances in the Indian T20 League auction if it took place right now.

Dasun Shanaka, the captain of Sri Lanka, is currently dominating T20 International matches. In the second T20I against the Indian Team, he amassed a storming 56 from 22 balls and claimed two wickets to win Player of the Match. Before the third and final T20I on Saturday, the visitors were able to tie the series thanks to his all-around effort.

Even though all-rounders were in great demand and players like Sam Curran, Cameron Green, and Ben Stokes broke the bank with their exorbitant bids during the Indian T20 League 2023 auction in December. The Sri Lankan all-rounder Shanaka (base price 50 lakhs) remained unsold in this auction. He is presently the player with the most runs scored in the T20I series against India, even though there were no buyers for him in the Indian T20 spectacular. The 31-year-old has scored 101 runs in two games at an astounding strike rate of 206.12. He now has the fourth-highest position among series wicket-takers with two wickets under his belt.

Former Indian great Gautam Gambhir shared his thoughts about the Shanaka's chances in the Indian T20 League auction if it were placed right now. In an interview with a media outlet, he said that the Sri Lanka all-rounder would have brought in a lot of cash if the current IND vs. SL series had taken place during the auctions.

"I won't have money to buy him; he would be that expensive, as he has batted. That is the main focus of the auction. If this series had occurred just before the auction, some of the franchises likely wouldn't have had the funds to purchase him", Gambir stated.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka under Shanaka will want to win the series when they take on India in the decisive game on Saturday. The visitors will play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series beginning on Tuesday, January 10, after the completion of the Twenty20 Internationals.
