Team India qualifies for the Asian Championship for the second time in a row!

With Palestine’s 4-0 win over the Philippines, it is now confirmed that Team India has qualified for the Asian Championship 2023. After two wins in a row against Cambodia and Afghanistan, team India was ready to take Hong Kong on Tuesday to qualify for the tournament. However, the good news came early but there’s no room for relaxation. On their home turf at Salt Lake Stadium, Sunil Chhetri and company will leave no stone unturned to win the game and qualify as the league leaders.

In the very first match, the Blue Tigers defeated Cambodia by 2-0 but fans returned with mixed emotions as team India wasn’t playing great brand of football. Things changed in the 2nd match against Afghanistan. Despite the Afghani’s being a much stronger side, team India kept the pressure on in the 1st half and despite numerous attempts, the ball couldn’t find the back of the net.

The tempo slowed down in the 2nd half of the match. The last 10 mins however was a roller-coaster ride. Sunil Chhetri’s goal helped team India go 1-0 up in the 86th minute of the match while the Afghanistan pulled one back in the 88th minute. With Sunil being changed in the meanwhile, the fans gave up all the hope to win the game and that is exactly when the magic happened.

Sahil Abdul Samad received the ball inside the box and his low powerful shot find the back of the net and with that, India won the match 2-1. The journey will continue against Hong Kong as well.

Salt Lake Stadium will once again host more than 30,000 people as the demand for a ticket is very high. Can India win three in a row and give the fans some joy at the end of the season? Expectations are quite high at the moment.
