Colossal blow for France ahead of their World Cup 2022 campaign

Last Saturday night, ahead of the World Cup opener in Qatar, was a massive dampener for France and millions of global football fans. France start their title defence on Tuesday against Australia.

An unfortunate injury will probably end the World Cup campaign of one of this year’s mega stars, Karim Benzema. The football fraternity was eagerly waiting to see the 2022 Ballon D’Or winner in action at the grandest of stages. A sharp pain in his left thigh may prevent him from playing a single match for his country, France. The French Federation confirmed the news on Saturday night.

The Frenchman is in a rich vein of form. Over the last few years, the prolific striker has scored heaps of goals, both for Real Madrid and his national side. He was not picked in the 15 man squad in 2018 concerning alleged sex scandal. Madrid boss Carlo Ancelloti however dismissed those rumours claiming them baseless and stupid. Whatever the truth, Benzema was in no fit state to play, and he eventually admitted that himself, deciding that it wouldn't have been right to continue fighting a losing battle while France still had the option to call up a replacement.
